Lilium 'Star Gazer':Stately sprays of fragrant, deep pink flowers edged in a delicate white lineare produced in July and August. Lilies are one of the all-time favouritesummer-flowering bulbs as they look superb in any garden scheme. Grows to 1m.
Lilium 'Muscadet':Sprays of magnificent pure white flowers with pink spots and soft pink down thecentre of each petal and lovely red stamens. The flowers appear in midsummer,and are one of the all-time favourite summer-flowering bulb. Grows to 1m.
Lilium 'Casa Blanca':A classic oriental lily with sweetly fragrant, pure white flowers thatdelicately curve back towards the end of each petal, and dark red stamens. Theflowers are produced on tall stems from mid- to late summer and are ideal forthe back of a sunny border. Universally loved for their big showy flowers,these lilies make excellent cut flowers. Grows to 1.1m.
Lilies can be planted at any time from early autumnto mid-spring. Planting in autumn often helps them settle in and becomebetter established before they start to put on their new spring growth, butspring planting is a better option if your soil is heavy and wet during winter.
Choose a sunny spot, preferably where the plant receives a little light shadeat its base, and plant each bulb 15-20cm (6-10in) deep in a well-drained soil,enriched with well-rotted organic matter or leaf mould. Space them at15-30cm 6-12in) intervals and provide support before the flowers appear.
Deadhead the faded blooms promptly and cut the dead stems back toground level at the end of autumn.
