One of the most reliable variegated shrubs for mixed borders, this compact deciduous plant produces clusters of soft pink, funnel-shaped flowers on arching stems from late spring into early summer. The foliage is a standout feature, with mid-green leaves edged in creamy-white, adding long-season interest even when not in bloom.
Weigela florida 'Variegata' is ideal for smaller gardens due to its modest size and works well at the front of borders or against a sunny wall or fence. The flowers are popular with pollinators, especially bees.
An RHS Award of Garden Merit plant, it's valued for its dependable performance and ornamental foliage.

Plant Weigela in well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade for best flowering. They prefer a sheltered spot and will tolerate most soil types, as long as they’re not in soils prone to waterlogging, especially in winter.
Water regularly during dry spells in the first year to help establish the root system. Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring to encourage strong growth and good flower production. Mulch annually with well-rotted organic matter to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.
Once established, prune each year in mid-summer after flowering, removing one or two of the older stems to the base and cutting back the flowered stems to strong shoots below the spent flowers to maintain shape and encourage new flowering wood.
