  • A fabulous, low-growing, evergreen, succulent perennial with red-tipped green foliage in winter turning a deeper bronze colour in summer. The cylindrical, banana-shaped leaves up to 2cm (1”) long are arranged in spirals around the stems. An easy to care for plant that suits a container, rockery, gravel bed, or border edges to make a creeping mat. Grown as a houseplant, it thrives in a small pot on a sunny windowsill. Once established, Sedum × rubrotinctum is drought tolerant and low maintenance.

  • Garden care:
Plant in full sun in an open airy location with well-drained soil and water sparingly, allowing soil to dry between watering. Keep the foliage reasonably dry during winter months if possible.

If grown as a houseplant, place it in a bright spot and in spring and summer, water when the compost gets dry, but make sure it never sits in excess water for any length of time. In autumn and winter cut back on the watering but do not let it dry out completely. Avoid a humid atmosphere (no bathrooms or steamy kitchens) and in the warmer months, open a window or door occasionally so it can enjoy the fresh air. Repot every year or two into a slightly larger pot using cacti compost. Jelly bean plant will drop its leaves if it is either over-watered or under-watered.
