Prostanthera ovalifolia 'Variegata' is a colourful evergreen is a gorgeous addition to a sheltered garden, sunny patio or conservatory. Its aromatic leaves are subltly variegated, and each time they are brushed past, they will release a fresh, minty scent. Then, in late spring and early summer, an abundance of small pinkish purple flowers appear, really putting on a dazzling display.
Plant Prostanthera in a warm, protected place, water sparingly once established, and keep it on the dry side through winter. After flowering, give it a light trim to keep its shape, then mulch with 5-7cm (2-3in) of compost to improve soil structure and hold moisture. In colder areas it’s best grown in a so it can be moved to shelter before temperatures fall close to freezing.
