A flamboyant flowering evergreen shrub for acid conditions bearing loose, peony-form blooms in shades of vibrant rose pink. The medium-sized flowers reach 7.5-10cm (3-4in) wide and showcase crepe-like wavy petals with ruffled darker pink margins, reminiscent of a flamenco dancer's skirt. Blooming prolifically through spring, the young leaves emerge with a bronze tint before maturing to dark glossy green. With its romantic ruffled blooms and vigorous growth habit, Camellia 'Señorita' brings a touch of Spanish flair when massed in borders or suitably large containers.
To prevent damage to the emerging buds and flowers protect from cold, dry winds and early morning sun. Water established plants in dry weather to prevent bud drop. Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser in mid-spring and again in June. Top-dress annually with shredded bark or well-rotted leaf mould. After flowering lightly trim or prune any branches that spoil the appearance of the plant.
