A splendid, medium sized deciduous shrub with mid- to dark green foliage, Forsythia × intermedia Week End produces a mass of rich yellow, four petalled flowers, which smother the branches in spring.
Excellent for wall-training, it also fits nicely into shrub borders where it can be used as a striking spring specimen, or grown as an informal hedge.

Plant in well-drained soil and a sunny or lightly shaded spot, where it will establish quickly and give the best display of spring flowers. Water regularly during dry spells in the first year to help roots settle, and mulch in spring to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.
After flowering, prune by removing one or two of the oldest stems right back to the base to encourage strong new growth. Thin out any congested shoots from the centre to improve airflow, and cut back flowered shoots to a healthy bud to keep the shrub neat and compact.
