  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: moderately fertile, moist but well-drained
  • Rate of growth: fast
  • Flowering period: May to June
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

A herbaceous perennial with bright green leaves that radiate from delicately branched stems. In early summer, masses of soft, fresh, bright green flowers appear and last for several months. This lovely, but variable plant will brighten a sunny herbaceous border or the partially shaded edges of a woodland garden. In autumn the leaves fade to lovely shades of yellow and orange before they die back. Unlike many spurges, Euphorbia palustris will tolerate heavier soils.

  • Garden care:
Plant in sunny borders in fertile, moist but well-drained soil, watering regularly while they establish. These hardy perennials die back in winter and re-emerge in spring. Cut old stems down to ground level in late autumn or early spring to keep the plants tidy, and divide congested clumps every few years to maintain vigour.

Apply a light mulch in winter to protect roots and retain moisture. They pair well with ornamental grasses and late-flowering perennials, and tolerating occasional dry periods once established.
    • Humans/Pets: IRRITANT to skin/eye; harmful if eaten
