Fagus sylvatica 'Purpurea Pendula' creates an enchanting focal point with its mushroom-shaped form and gracefully weeping purple branches. This compact ornamental beech bears small, inconspicuous flower catkins in late spring, and develops into a small tree with cascading limbs revealing smooth silver bark in winter. Its wavy purple leaves emerge tipped in red, turning coppery bronze in fall.
Requiring little care, the petite stature and refined habit make this fabulous native tree ideal for small gardens wanting unique structure and colourful foliage.

Plant out as soon as possible, incorporating some well-rotted garden compost or horse manure into the planting hole. Firm the soil around the roots and stake firmly. Water in well and continue to water frequently during the following growing season.
After flowering in late spring or early summer, lightly cut back any branches that spoil the symmetry of the plant and apply a generous 5–7cm (2–3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant.
