One of the earliest flowering Roscoeas, 'Harvington Raw Silk’ is a vigorous, clump-forming member of the ginger family and sports the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit. Beautiful pink bracts surround the buds which open into large, ivory-white orchid-like flowers. An easy and reliable perennial for a cool, shady position such as underplanted beneath roses and shrubs or dappled shade borders where the upright, yellow-green, stem-clasping leaves will maintain interest long after the midsummer flush of flowers has receded.
Grow in humus-rich, moderately fertile soil that is moist yet well-drained. Locate in a cool, sheltered spot with partial shade. Prevent summer drought and winter waterlogging. Enhance the soil with organic matter, and introduce mycorrhizal fungi (Rootgrow) during planting.
In colder regions, employ a dry winter mulch like bark for added protection.
