Covered in numerous, attractive bright red trumpet-shaped flowers during the summer, Mimulus ‘Red Emperor' is a marginal pond plant best suited to shallow water or boggy conditions, and a great way to add contrast to the border and shape of your pond. This monkey flower has downy, light green, toothed leaves that complement the prolific, insect-friendly flowers.
These marginal plants thrive in moist, humus-rich soil and can be grown either as bog plants or shallow aquatics. For boggy borders, we offer a 9cm nursery pot option — plant them in reliably damp ground in full sun to partial shade. Keep the soil consistently moist and protect young shoots from slugs and snails.
If choosing our aquatic pot option, place them at the pond edge with up to 10cm (4in) of water above the compost. Removing seed heads encourages new flowers to form.
