  • Spectacular, trumpet-shaped, salmon red flowers appear from August to September among dark green leaves. Campsis × tagliabuana 'Madame Galen' is a vigorous climber that looks great trained over a sunny wall or fence and needs lots of space to spread out.

To avoid dry conditions, and to ensure good soil contact around the rootball, we advise planting climbers at least 30cm (12in), and preferably 45-60cm (18-24in) away from the base of a wall or fence. An even larger distance should be maintained when planting climbers beside an existing tree or shrub.

Plant Campsis in a sunny, sheltered spot, ideally against a south or west-facing wall for warmth and protection from hard frosts. Provide strong support, such as a trellis or wall, as this vigorous climber can grow large.

Use well-draining, moderately fertile soil, and water regularly during the first growing season; once established, it’s relatively drought-tolerant. Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the plant and encourage flowering. In colder areas, protect young plants from frost until they’re well-established.
