First introduced over 100 years ago, 'King Alfred' is still one of the most popular daffodils on the market today. It provides an iconic image of spring, with its gorgeous, golden-yellow flowers that look spectacular when allowed to naturalise and form large drifts. Plant plenty of them so you can pick some for the vase too.

  • Garden care:
Wearing gloves plant bulbs 10-15cm (4-6in) deep and 10cm (4in) apart in autumn. After flowering feed with a balanced fertiliser, deadhead the flowers, but do not be tempted to cut back or tidy the foliage after flowering as this will interfere with the bulbs’ ability to store energy for the following year's flowers.
    • Humans/Pets: Harmful if eaten; skin irritant
