Gorgeous arching sprays of white flowers in mid and late spring and toothed, bright green leaves. This popular, deciduous shrub is ideal for a sunny, well-drained shrub or mixed border.

Relatively vigorous and easy to grow, to guarantee an abundant, foam-like display it must be pruned annually immediately after flowering. Spiraea 'Arguta' will lightly clipped, flowering hedge if planted en masse, perfect for a soft backdrop to foreground plantings.

  • Garden care:
Plant in a sunny or partially shaded spot with well-drained, moderately fertile soil. Space plants to allow airflow and healthy growth, and water regularly while they are establishing. Apply a layer of mulch around the base to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and protect roots. A light feed in early spring can support healthy foliage and flowers.

Prune lightly in late winter or early spring, removing only dead, damaged, or crossing branches, as this species flowers on old wood and heavy pruning can reduce blooms. Deadhead spent flowers in summer if desired to tidy the plant, but it is not essential.
