A tough little evergreen shrub with oval, hairy, grey leaves and cheerful, bright yellow, daisy-like flowers in June and July. It's drought tolerant and forms a natural mound. Try it with other silver-leaved plants or as part of a Mediterranean scheme or as a groundcover for a sunny, well-drained site.
Brachyglottis (Dunedin Group) Sunshine is particularly suitable for coastal gardens as it stands up well to strong winds and salt-laden air.
Brachyglottis (Dunedin Group) Sunshine is particularly suitable for coastal gardens as it stands up well to strong winds and salt-laden air.
Plant in well-drained soil and a sunny position, as it thrives in dry, sunny conditions and is ideal for coastal gardens. Water well during establishment, but once settled, it is drought-tolerant and low maintenance.
To keep the plant compact and bushy, cut back lightly after flowering, removing spent blooms and tidying up any leggy growth. Apply a layer of mulch around the base in spring to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Avoid overwatering or planting in heavy, poorly drained soil, as this can cause root rot.
