Few houseplants spark curiosity quite like a tropical pitcher plant, and this one is a real conversation starter. Glossy, lance-shaped leaves stretch outward before forming dangling pitchers at their tips, each one plump and neatly shaped at around 10cm (4in) long. The outside of the pitchers shows off deep red colouring, while inside you’ll find a striking speckled pattern of red against pale green and white, giving the whole plant plenty of close-up detail.

The foliage stays a fresh green with a subtle pink tint along the midrib, adding extra interest even when new pitchers are forming. These natural traps slowly develop at the end of each leaf, creating a relaxed, trailing look that works brilliantly in bright kitchens, bathrooms or warm conservatories where humidity is higher.

A hybrid between two tropical mountain species, Nepenthes ‘Bill’ is vigorous and rewarding when given bright, indirect light and consistently moist, free-draining compost. Keep it somewhere warm and humid and it will steadily produce new pitchers, making it a fascinating and decorative decorative carnivorous plant for indoor growing.

  • Home care:
Nepenthes thrive in warm, humid, and partly shady environments, daytime temperatures should be maintained around 18-27°C (65-80°F), with a minimum of 7°C (45°F) at night, making them ideal for year-round indoor cultivation. They prefer being watered with rainwater, and many species benefit from sitting in a saucer filled with 2.5-5cm (1-2in) of water during the growing season. In winter, it's best to keep the compost damp rather than wet. Never add water into the pitchers as this can cause them to shrivel and die. Pot on in spring using a specialist carnivorous compost.

Please note: all our indoor hanging pots include drainage holes to prevent waterlogging. We recommend taking them down to water in the sink or on a saucer, and leaving them to drain before rehanging.
