Masses of apple-blossom pink, tubular flowers from June to September among small, glossy, dark green leaves. This compact, bushy, (mainly) evergreen shrub, looks lovely towards the back of a sunny shrub border as a foil for flowering perennials, or for growing as an informal flowering hedge. Escallonia 'Apple Blossom' is particularly useful when grown as a windbreak in coastal areas.

Escallonia thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, ideally in a sheltered spot to protect it from cold winds. It tolerates a range of soil types but performs best in slightly acidic to neutral conditions.
Water regularly during its first growing season to help it establish, then only in prolonged dry spells. Once established, it's drought tolerant and low maintenance. Prune after flowering in late summer to maintain a tidy shape and encourage bushy growth.
In colder regions, choose a more sheltered position or provide some winter protection to avoid frost damage.
